Hi everyone! Due to some problems with various 64 bit platform we decided to release a second prerelease: It's functionally identical to the first prerelease except for one critical bug fix regarding 64 bit platforms that slipped past us. If you are using a 64 bit platform you might want to upgrade, otherwise you can be happy with prerelease 1 (so far we didn't even provide the second prerelease for all platforms).
And except for this special case we will continue development seriously upon successfully funding the campaign, right now we are just trying to ensure that everyone can have a chance at looking at the game.
Awesome! Glad to see ADOM being developed again! Any reason prerelease 2 isn't available for Windows, though? And is there any way to change the font size used in the game?
ReplyDeleteThe only change made was a bug fix for some 64 bit platforms. As compiling, bundling and releasing all the various versions is still a pretty time-intensive process we decided to only release p2 for the affected platforms. One of the things going to happen when http://www.indiegogo.com/resurrect-adom-development succeeds is that Jochen is going to automate the whole build&compilation process 100% to make it easier to release new versions. But that's also quite a bit of work and thus won't happen before the end of a successful crowd funding campaign.
DeleteAs ADOM is a command line game, changing its font size is done by changing the font size of the window it's running in (in windows, right click on the title bar to change its properties).
ReplyDeleteNote, however, that this can't be done while ADOM is running. Also note that to continue a saved game, you need to start it from a window that has the same dimensions (columns x lines) as the one the game was started in.
Are you sure that ADOM is a command line game? The game window doesn't have the usual command line app options to let me change the font size and such; that's why I asked how to do it!
ReplyDeleteI think ancow talks about running the MS-DOS version on Windows. The "real" Windows executable does not allow to select another font or font size. This feature is planned to be added if the campaign is successful.
DeleteMaybe announce the new prerelease also on sites like happypenguin.org, and others? This way you could reach people who are not looking into adom progress once per month (for the last decade ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe ADOM prerelease is now available for PPC-based Macs too, head over to www.ancardia.com to download.
ReplyDeleteOh, hey, there's a little display bug in the Windows version (actually PR1 since there was no PR2 for Windows) - when I step on an altar and off again, the altar disappears; I have to press Ctrl-R to redraw the screen in order to make it come back!
